Australia’s best small car, the Mazda 2, faces new competition

The respected motor vehicle industry journal, NRMA Open Road magazine, has put to the test Mazda’s 18-month-old Mazda 2 model against Ford’s new Fiesta in its current March/April edition.

In last year’s Australia’s Best Cars Awards, the Mazda 2 was the clear Small Car category winner, but with the new Fiesta attracting attention in the small car sector, Open Road was keen to compare their performance, driveability and aesthetics.

Among the experts were Tim Pomroy and Scott Nargar, both members of the Best Car judging panel, who concluded that, overall, the Mazda 2 “is a more refined package and has a more comfortable ride and smoother driveline”.

A history of eurocarsmazda

The award-winning Mazda Eurocars Artarmon dealership has been family-owned and run by the Garner family for just under 30 years, ensuring a continuity of service and quality that none of its competitors can match.

The father of current Eurocars Mazda Dealer Principal, Tim Garner, bought the Eurocars business in 1980 when it was a European car dealership importing and selling models such as Alfa Romeos and Fiats in Crows Nest.

In 1985, it was converted to a specialist Mazda dealership and its name was changed to Eurocars Mazda. As the business expanded, it moved to larger premises at 339 Pacific Highway, Artarmon, where its state-of-the-art Mazda showroom and Eurocars Mazda Service Centre remains today.

When his father retired, Tim Garner took over as Eurocars Dealer Principal and has guided the business to a national Mazda dealership ranking of third for new and used car sales.

EurocarsMazda has twice won the prestigious Mazda Master Dealer Award (2008, 2009), which is issued annually by the Mazda Guild to only 15 dealerships across the country.

50 years of Mazda in Australia!

Sydney Mazda dealer, Eurocarsmazda, is celebrating Mazda’s 50th year in Australia in 2009, with the Japanese-made brand now commanding an incredible 10% share of Australia’s passenger car market.

Eurocars Dealer Principal, Tim Garner, said Mazda had built up an outstanding track record for high quality vehicles and was a revered brand in the Australian car industry.

Many Mazda models have risen to the top ranks of Australia’s favourite cars, including the sporty Mazda MX-5 and the ever-popular Mazda 2 and Mazda 3. The Mazda CX-9 continues to be popular with large families while the Mazda 6 remains the epitome of power and performance at the upper end of the mid-size car range.

Mazda’s 50th year celebrations got off to a flying start in January, with the Mazda 3 crowned Australia’s top selling car in January. Meanwhile, excitement is growing over the release of the New Generation Mazda 3, scheduled to arrive in Australia in April.
